How to care for your diamond

The best care you can take of your diamond and jewellery is to return it to your jeweller to professionally clean and while they are doing this, they will check the settings and make sure the piece of jewellery is secure. This should be done every 6 to 12 months.

We also encourage people to insure their jewellery, this can be done through your household insurance. You will need to obtain a valuation certificate from your jeweller and can be added as a specified item on your household policy.

A diamond’s durability is out of this world, it is the hardest substance known to mankind but that does not mean it is indestructible. A diamond can be scratched by another diamond, if  the setting is compromised the risk of losing or damaging a diamond is high and if an unfortunate blow or knock puts pressure on a cleavage or fracture line a diamond could break…

When jewellery is not worn it should be kept in soft padded compartments separated from other pieces of jewellery. Clean the area around and underneath the setting with a soft bristled toothbrush, luke warm water and a gentle cleaning solution.
